Cocktail
Mary Pickford
The Mary Pickford is a pink, tropical Prohibition-era rum cocktail from Havana — white rum shaken with fresh pineapple juice, a little grenadine and a dash of maraschino liqueur, strained up into a coupe and garnished with a maraschino cherry. Off-dry, fruity and pale rose in colour, it is a soft, sophisticated daiquiri cousin named for the biggest silent-film star of its day.

Pale blush-pink, the Mary Pickford smells of ripe fresh pineapple and rosy grenadine over the clean, light dryness of Cuban rum, with a nutty cherry-pit perfume from the maraschino woven through. On the palate it is soft and off-dry — bright pineapple fruit and a gentle pomegranate sweetness balanced against a fresh tropical acidity — with the maraschino adding an almond-and-cherry depth and the rum keeping the finish dry and clean at around 15 percent alcohol in the glass.
