Marmite is a thick, sticky, dark-brown spread made from concentrated brewer's yeast extract — a by-product of beer brewing — flavoured with vegetable and spice extracts. Intensely salty and savoury, it is spread thinly on buttered toast and is famous for polarising eaters into lovers and haters.
