The satsuma is the cold-hardy, virtually seedless Japanese mandarin with the loosest skin of all citrus — a thin, baggy, slightly puffy rind that lifts away almost untouched. Mild, sweet and gently tart, with tender, delicate flesh, it is the easy-peel snacking mandarin behind most canned "mandarin oranges" and a fixture of late-autumn lunchboxes.
These cues are Mandarin's, and hold across its varieties; where this one differs, its own page says so.
