Sweet and rounded, Malibu leads with an unmistakable coconut-cream aroma — the toasted-suntan-lotion note of coconut extract — layered over vanilla and a soft, lightly molasses-y white rum, with a faint tropical-floral warmth. The texture is smooth and syrupy, the alcohol gentle at 21 percent ABV and largely masked by sugar, and the finish is clean and sweet with a lingering coconut and a whisper of the rum base rather than any oaky bite. It reads more as liquid coconut candy than as spirit, which is exactly why it disappears so effortlessly into pineapple, orange and cranberry blended drinks.
