Licor 43

Licor 43 (Cuarenta y Tres) is a bright, pale-gold Spanish liqueur from Cartagena, bottled at around thirty-one percent alcohol by volume and named for the forty-three ingredients — citrus fruits, botanicals and aromatic herbs and spices — said to go into its secret recipe, though a lush, creamy vanilla is far and away its dominant note.

Intensely sweet and syrupy, Licor 43 leads with a rich, custard-like vanilla — its unmistakable signature — laced with bright sweet orange and other Mediterranean citrus, and underpinned by a warm baking-spice hum of cinnamon, clove and vanilla-bean sweetness. Faint herbal and honeyed botanical notes hover beneath. The texture is viscous and rounded, the alcohol gentle for a spirit at about thirty-one percent ABV, and the aftertaste lingers creamy, sweet and orange-vanilla with just a whisper of spice.
