Lemonade is a cold, sweet-tart soft drink built from fresh lemon juice, water and sugar, one of the oldest and most universal homemade refreshers. In North America and France the word means the cloudy, still, old-fashioned mix of juice, water and sweetener; across Britain and much of the Commonwealth it means a clear, carbonated, lemon-flavoured fizzy drink. Both share the same bright, mouth-watering balance of sourness and sugar and are drunk chilled over ice, often with a sprig of mint.
