Kukicha (茎茶, "stem tea"), also called bocha, is a Japanese tea brewed not from the leaf but from the stalks, stems and twigs of Camellia sinensis that are sorted out during the making of sencha and gyokuro. Naturally low in caffeine, it steeps to a pale, straw-green liquor with a mild, sweet, slightly nutty and creamy character quite unlike the grassy bite of ordinary green tea.
