The golden kiwi (Actinidia chinensis) is the smooth-skinned, yellow-fleshed sister of the familiar fuzzy green kiwi — a bronze, hairless berry whose vivid amber flesh is markedly sweeter and far less tart, tasting of mango, melon and tropical fruit rather than the green kiwi's grassy strawberry tang. Best known by Zespri's SunGold cultivar, it is a New Zealand breeding success that turned a different Chinese Actinidia species into a global premium fruit.
