Kamikaze
The Kamikaze is a sharp, citrusy equal-parts classic of vodka, triple sec and fresh lime juice — shaken hard over ice and served either straight up in a coupe or on the rocks. Pale and tart, it is a lean, bracing sour that rose to popularity in the 1970s and 80s, and it is the close sibling of the Cosmopolitan, which is essentially a Kamikaze given a splash of cranberry.

Clean
Pale and faintly cloudy, the Kamikaze smells of sharp fresh lime and the sweet bitter-orange perfume of triple sec, with clean, near-neutral vodka giving it lift rather than flavour. On the palate it is a lean, bracing sour — vivid mouth-puckering lime tartness rounded by the sweetness of the orange liqueur, with just a whisper of citrus-peel bitterness and a faint alcohol warmth — finishing crisp, dry and zesty at around 24 percent alcohol in the glass. It is refreshing and punchy in equal measure, and the direct ancestor of the softer, cranberry-tinted Cosmopolitan.
