Jabuticaba

Plinia cauliflora · Tropical fruit

Jabuticaba — sometimes called the Brazilian grape tree — is the grape-sized, dark-purple fruit of Plinia cauliflora, a slow-growing tree in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). Its most striking habit is cauliflory: the fruit erupts directly from the bark of the trunk and main branches rather than from twigs. The thick, tannic skin encloses a translucent, sweet-tart white pulp eaten fresh, or made into jellies, wines and liqueurs.
