Greenpoint

The Greenpoint is a modern Manhattan variation from the 2000s New York cocktail revival — rye whiskey stirred with sweet vermouth and a measure of yellow Chartreuse, seasoned with both Angostura and orange bitters and served up in a coupe. Named for the Brooklyn neighbourhood, it splits the Manhattan's vermouth with herbal Chartreuse to give a spirit-forward, aromatic, faintly honeyed drink of roughly 30 percent ABV.

Burnished amber-gold, the Greenpoint smells of honeyed yellow Chartreuse and a garden of herbal botanicals over peppery rye grain, dried-fruit sweet vermouth and a clove-and-orange lift from the bitters. On the palate it is spirit-forward and complex — a rounding caramel and honey sweetness from the vermouth and Chartreuse set against dry rye spice and gentle bitterness — with a saffron-and-baking-spice warmth, a fragrant lemon-oil top note, and a long, dry, warmly aromatic finish at around 30 percent alcohol in the glass.
