The green sapote is a russet-skinned Central American tropical fruit, the fruit of Pouteria viridis, a tree in the sapodilla family (Sapotaceae). Smaller and sweeter than its famous cousin the mamey sapote, its fine-grained flesh ripens from orange-red to a deep salmon or reddish-brown, tasting of sweet pumpkin, honey and cooked sweet potato with a light almond-marzipan edge.
