Grasshopper

The Grasshopper is a sweet, creamy after-dinner cocktail built from equal parts green crème de menthe, white crème de cacao and fresh cream, shaken hard with ice and strained up into a chilled cocktail glass. Pale mint-green and silky, it tastes of cool peppermint and milk chocolate over a soft dairy body — in effect a mint-chocolate dessert in a glass. It is a New Orleans drink, associated with Tujague's bar in the French Quarter, and became a standard of the mid-century American South. The name comes from the drink's bright green colour, which is given entirely by the crème de menthe.

A pale mint-green shaken cream cocktail of roughly 15 to 20 percent alcohol, sweet and dessert-like, with the cool menthol of green crème de menthe leading over the milk-chocolate note of white crème de cacao. Fresh cream binds the two into a smooth, faintly frothy body that is rich without being heavy; the finish is minty and chocolatey, clean rather than cloying when the drink is well made. In effect a mint-chocolate dessert in a glass.
