Godfather

The Godfather is a smooth, spirit-forward two-ingredient classic — Scotch whisky and the almond liqueur amaretto, built over ice in a rocks glass. Warm amber in colour and silky in texture, it pairs the smoke and malt of Scotch with the sweet, marzipan-like nuttiness of amaretto, an easy after-dinner sipper that has stayed popular since the 1970s.

Warm amber in the glass, the Godfather smells first of sweet almond and marzipan from the amaretto, backed by the malt, gentle smoke and toasted oak of Scotch whisky. On the palate it is smooth and rounded — a mellow almond-and-stone-fruit sweetness carried on the malty, faintly smoky whisky, with just a whisper of bitterness from the kernel note and a soft, warming, lightly oaky finish at around 30 percent alcohol in the glass. It drinks like a gentle, dessert-adjacent nightcap rather than a bracing spirit-forward cocktail.
