Ginger ale

Ginger ale is a carbonated soft drink flavoured with ginger, sweetened, and served cold and sparkling. It comes in two broad styles — the older, darker, sweeter "golden" ginger ale with a pronounced ginger bite, and the paler, lighter, drier style typified by Canada Dry that rose to dominance in the twentieth century. Milder and clearer than its spicier, cloudier cousin ginger beer, it is non-alcoholic and is drunk both on its own and, very widely, as a cocktail mixer. It is also a long-standing home remedy, sipped flat or cold to settle an upset stomach.

A cold glass of ginger ale reads first as warm, sweet ginger spice over a frankly sugary, lightly citric body, lifted by brisk carbonation that adds a prickly bite; the dry style is paler and crisper with a more delicate ginger note, while golden ginger ale is sweeter and spicier, but both finish clean and refreshing with the faint pepperiness of ginger.
