Genipap, also known as jagua or huito (Genipa americana), is the leathery-skinned fruit of a mid-sized tree of the coffee family (Rubiaceae) native to the American tropics. Ripe, its brown pulp is turned into juice, syrup, liqueur and preserves across Latin America and the Caribbean, while the unripe fruit yields the famous blue-black jagua body dye.
