Fish House Punch
Fish House Punch is a potent batched rum punch from colonial Philadelphia — dark rum, cognac and peach brandy stretched with fresh lemon, sugar and water and served cold from a bowl over a block of ice. Deceptively smooth and fruity for its strength, it is one of the oldest documented American punches, dating to the 1730s, and remains the archetype of the big-bowl party punch.

Rum funk
Amber to deep gold, Fish House Punch smells of ripe peach and dried fruit over the funky molasses depth of dark rum, the oak and raisin of cognac, and a bright lift of lemon peel, all carried on a faint tea-like tannin. On the palate it is fruity and remarkably smooth — the lemon and sugar rounding the rum and brandy into something juicy, warming and only lightly sweet — with a stone-fruit sweetness, a citrus tang and a long, warm, spirituous finish at around 20 percent alcohol in the bowl that is far stronger than its easy drinkability suggests.
