The Piarom — also called Maryami — is Iran's long, slender, dark chocolate-brown semi-dry date, an elegant fruit prized as one of the finest dates in the world. Where the soft Mazafati is wet and fudgy and the pale Deglet Noor is firm and flaky, the Piarom sits between them: a thin-skinned, fleshy, meaty date that is moist and chewy without being syrup-wet, with a deep, complex sweetness running to caramel, toffee and an almost chocolate-malt richness. Grown above all in the Hajiabad district of Hormozgan in southern Iran, it is the most expensive and sought-after of the Iranian export dates, marketed worldwide as a "chocolate date" or "gourmet date."
These cues are Date's, and hold across its varieties; where this one differs, its own page says so.
