Dark and Stormy

The Dark 'n' Stormy is a highball of dark rum and ginger beer — a two-part built drink, simple and refreshing, with a tall, spicy, gingery bite under a dark rum top. It is the national drink of Bermuda, and unusually for a cocktail its name is a registered trademark: in its strict form it is made with Gosling's Black Seal rum, the spec the trademark protects. Ginger beer fills the glass and the dark rum is floated on top, so the drink pours from pale gold at the base to a stormy dark cloud at the rim — the look that gives it its name.
