Darjeeling is a high-grown black tea from the steep Himalayan slopes of the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India — prized for a light, bright, golden-amber liquor and a distinctive aroma often described as floral and "muscatel," like the scent of Muscat grapes. Delicate, complex and only lightly oxidised by black-tea standards, it is sold by "flush" (harvest season) and is widely called the "champagne of teas."
