The chile de árbol is a slim, searingly hot Mexican chilli whose name means "tree chilli," after the woody, tall, tree-like plant that bears it. Rating roughly 15,000–30,000 Scoville Heat Units — several times hotter than a jalapeño — it is prized mostly in its dried form: thin, glossy, scarlet pods that keep their bright colour and clean, smoky heat for months.
Reading a just ripe one. Move the slider and the rest of this page — nutrition, pairings — updates with it. These cues are Chilli's, and hold across its varieties; where this one differs, its own page says so.
