The Calabrian chilli (peperoncino calabrese, locally diavolicchio or "little devil") is a small, fiery Capsicum annuum from Italy's southern region of Calabria. Bright, fruity and smoky-hot at roughly 25,000–40,000 Scoville Heat Units, the little crimson pods are eaten fresh but are best known crushed in oil, dried into flakes, or pounded into the spreadable paste that anchors Calabrian cooking.
