Liqueur
Cherry Brandy
Cherry brandy is a sweet, deep-red liqueur made by steeping dark cherries — and often their crushed kernels — in a brandy or neutral-spirit base and sweetening the result heavily; despite the name it is a sugary cherry liqueur of moderate strength, not the dry, colourless cherry eau-de-vie known as kirsch.

Intensely sweet and syrupy, cherry brandy leads with a deep, jammy dark-cherry aroma — ripe Morello and marasca fruit — laced with a marzipan, bitter-almond note drawn from the crushed kernels, the benzaldehyde that cherry stones share with almonds. Beneath the fruit lies plain sugar sweetness and a warm, gently tannic finish. The texture is viscous and rounded, the alcohol soft for a liqueur at around a quarter to a third ABV, and the aftertaste lingers sweet and cherry-almondy with a faint stone-fruit bitterness. It is a sweet cordial, worlds apart from the dry, clear kirsch it is often confused with.
