Che, also called Chinese mulberry or mandarin melon berry, is a small, knobbly red fruit borne by Maclura tricuspidata, a thorny tree in the mulberry family (Moraceae). Despite the nickname it is not a true mulberry: it is a compound fruit resembling a round, lychee- sized mulberry that ripens deep maroon-red, with soft, juicy, fig-like flesh tasting of melon, fig and mild watermelon.
