The Bramble is a modern British gin classic — a gin sour built over crushed ice and laced with blackberry liqueur, so that a dark stain of crème de mûre bleeds down through the drink. It is the work of the London bartender Dick Bradsell, made in the mid-1980s and inspired by childhood blackberry-picking on the Isle of Wight. Tart, fruity and refreshing, it pairs the dry juniper bite of gin and the sharpness of fresh lemon with the sweet, jammy depth of blackberry. Served short over a mound of crushed ice in an old fashioned glass, it is one of the most enduring cocktails of the British cocktail revival.
