Boulevardier

The Boulevardier is a stirred, spirit-forward cocktail of the Negroni family, built from bourbon or rye whiskey, sweet red vermouth and Campari. It is in effect a Negroni with whiskey in place of gin — the grain spirit swapping the juniper for warmth and depth, while the vermouth and bitter Campari stay the same. Deep red-amber in the glass, it is bittersweet and rich, with the orange-and-rhubarb bite of Campari woven through the round sweetness of the vermouth and the round body of the whiskey. First printed in 1927 Paris and long forgotten, it was rediscovered in the 2000s and is now a modern classic and an official IBA cocktail.

29% ABV
A deep red-amber stirred cocktail of roughly 25 to 30 percent alcohol, bittersweet and spirit-forward, with the orange-and-rhubarb bitterness of Campari running through the round, herbal sweetness of red vermouth and the warm, oaky body of bourbon or rye. It is darker and richer than a Negroni — the whiskey replacing gin's dry juniper with depth and warmth — and finishes long and bittersweet, lifted by orange oils from the twist.
