The Blinker is a tart, rosy Prohibition-era whiskey sour — rye whiskey shaken with fresh grapefruit juice and grenadine, strained up into a coupe. Pale pink and bracingly citric, it balances the spice of American rye against the sharp, slightly bitter bite of grapefruit and a whisper of pomegranate sweetness, a nearly forgotten classic revived by modern bartenders.

Pale rose-pink and served up, the Blinker smells of sharp fresh grapefruit and sweet red-fruit grenadine lifted over the dry, peppery grain of rye whiskey. On the palate it is bright and tart — a clean grapefruit sourness with a faint pithy bitterness, rounded by the pomegranate or raspberry sweetness of the syrup and framed by warm rye spice. It finishes crisp and citric with a lingering grapefruit-peel bitterness and a gentle warmth at around 20 percent alcohol in the glass.
