Imperial stout — also called Russian imperial stout — is the biggest, richest member of the stout family: a jet-black, full-bodied ale of around 10 percent alcohol, dense and viscous, layering dark chocolate, espresso and roasted malt over notes of dried fruit, molasses and a warming, almost spirituous depth.
