The Cavendish is the standard supermarket banana of the world — the long, gently curved, bright-yellow dessert fruit that fills produce aisles on every continent. A triploid (AAA) clone of Musa acuminata, it is sweet, creamy and notably mild, with a thick, durable skin that ships and ripens reliably. It rose to dominance in the mid-20th century as the disease-resistant replacement for the older export banana, Gros Michel.
