Arnold Palmer

The Arnold Palmer is a cold, non-alcoholic American refresher that blends iced tea and lemonade, served over plenty of ice. It is named after the professional golfer Arnold Palmer, who liked to drink it and whose habit of ordering the mix carried his name into common use. Tea gives it body, a touch of tannin and a gentle astringency, while the lemonade brings bright citrus and sweetness; together they read as half-sweet, half-tart, and thoroughly thirst-quenching. It is one of the most popular summer and clubhouse drinks in the United States.

An Arnold Palmer reads first as bright, zesty lemon over a brisk, faintly malty black-tea base, the two meeting in a half-sweet, half-tart balance with a light astringent grip from the tea's tannins; it is clean and watery in body, cold and thirst-quenching, with no fat or creaminess and only the lemon's acidity giving it bite.
