Aquavit
Aquavit, or akvavit, is the traditional flavoured spirit of Scandinavia, distilled from grain or potato and redistilled or steeped with caraway and dill as its signature flavours, alongside fennel, coriander, aniseed and citrus peel. Bottled at around 40 percent alcohol and served ice-cold or lightly warmed in a small glass, it is a savoury, bready, caraway-forward schnapps drunk with toasts of skal at festive Nordic meals.

Clear unaged styles are crisp and herbal with a clean, spicy heat, while cask-aged Norwegian aquavits like Linie soften into pale gold with vanilla, gentle oak spice and a rounder body. The texture is light-bodied but spirituous with a warming alcohol note at around 40 percent, and the finish is dry and aromatic, the caraway echoing long after the cold glass is drained.
